Define

The Presidential convention is a political convention held every four years by the political parties who will be nominating a candidate to participate in the upcoming general U.S. presidential election.


Pupose

The purpose of a convention is to select the party's nominee for President. At the convention the party also adopts a statement of the party’s principles and goals known as the platform and adopts the rules for the party's activities, including the presidential nominating process for the next election cycle. The two major conventions are the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention.
